A community owned and run encrypted video chat/conferencing service is available for use here, intended to replace using services like Zoom, whose terms of service XR breaches and which may present unforeseen risks to privacy. This service works best with the Chromium (de-Googled Chrome) or Chrome browsers:
To create a new ‘room’ or channel for your conference, just define it in the URL directly and send that to your team. For instance, to start a channel ShenzhenActionPlan, you would simply send the following URL to your peers: https://meet.organise.earth/shenzhenactionplan
Channels created can be password protected, so if you’d rather not letting anyone join, be sure to set a password.
Please note that the above service does not offer the ability to record sessions to disk. It only allows for the ability to stream and/or record to YouTube (https://jitsi.org/live-streaming-andrecording-a-jitsi-conference). Naturally this is not suitable for a recording containing compromising information. In such cases, please use screen-casting software for your operating system to record the session to your hard disk.
For a video walk-through of using the secure video conferencing service, please see this video contributed by XR CZ.
If you prefer a mobile or tablet, you have to install the application which is free (https://jitsi.org/downloads/) and does not take up much space. You should have it on your device before you start. Then connect to the link provided.
Once in the session, the operation is very simple, below you have an image of the screen that you will see initially, below we give some indications and recommendations to facilitate the development of the meeting:
turn on/off microphone: we recommend that when you are not speaking, turn off the microphone so that ambient noises do not interfere with the sound of the person speaking.
turn video on/off: if you don't want your image to be seen, turn off the video.
activate mosaic view: if we are a lot of people in the meeting, it can be interesting to activate the mosaic view to see everyone.
raise your hand for the floor: if someone else has turn and you want to speak, we recommend raising your hand to ensure order in the interventions.
